Growing up, Omori was constantly at odds with her grandmother, Bayushi Heira, who felt she should be more delicate and retiring, as befitting a young Rokugani lady of the court. Omori and her grandmother disagreed on this point, and their relationship was quite bitter. Heira felt Omori was a disgrace to the women of the Bayushi family and couldn’t possibly offer the clan anything but shame, unless she learned humility. Omori bore her grandmother’s scorn, but maintained a desire to become a shugenja of note in her own right, and in her own way.
Bayushi Heira was no paragon of virtue, using her court position to procure wealth and status for herself alone, and upon death was punished for her greed by being sent to the realm of the hungry dead. She cursed Omori, and now the young shugenja is in fear that her grandmother’s spirit will come back to drag her into the realm of the dead to berate and belittle for eternity.
After studying with the Soshi and the Yogo, Omori was sent to Frog’s Crossing to help a landless Daimyo claim a strategic territory for the Scorpion. The town grew quickly, and Omori’s role became that of an advisor to Daimyo Bayushi.
She plays the part of a courtier in the Daimyo’s court, defends the town from invaders both natural and supernatural, gathers information on the Daimyo’s enemies, and looks after the common people of the town in equal measures. While her knowledge of the spirit world is not formidable, she has made it her business to be as useful to the Daimyo as she can possibly be. More often than not however, her role in the intrigue that takes place remains a secret.
